Web Log (Blog) - GLOutdoors.com

A listing of all the major site updates and other frivilous facts about the site. I work all the time on the site, but have yet to reach a point when I can say "I'm done". When you work a full-time job, have 2 small children, a wife, a charter boat, church, and an online store, there is only so much time in the day. Worst yet, I have a bad fishing habit, particularily, when it comes to chasing Ohio Steelhead.

Please accept my apology for any grammarical mistakes. I sometimes write "for effect" and leave a word or two out.

Still running behind on loading new products. Check out our 2009 products for the new Dreamweaver line up.. Moonshine spoons will be here in a few days.

My partner just had his second child so we are struggling to keep things moving with the store product loads and other parts of life. This is a great side business, but would be very difficult to make a good living selling fishing tackle. Not giving up my day job anytime soon. If you need anything custom, send me an email.

Lastly, check out my new Ratboy Fly Rod. It is a Rainshadow RX-6 six weight rod. I tried to make it more like a switch rod without the length. Definitely looking forward to flipping a few flies this spring.

What a gorgeous day! I am spending time today with my family and the site. Still working to migrate severs, but made good progress last night. The recent news of GM potentially not working a deal with the UAW is the topic of discussion around my house. Because of the economic woes, particularily in the great lakes region, store sales and the overall outlook are down. This store is a hobby business so at least I am not dependent on it to survive.

Tomorrow, Captain Chris Hettinger is delivering me two new Rat Boy rods - a modified two hand 9' fly rod and 9' drift rod. My love of steelhead rods goes back to 1985 when I built my first and only fishing pole. It was a 9' Lamiglas Graphite fly rod which I built into a bottom-bouncing rod. The one rod that Chris just built for me is an updated version built on a 9' RX6 Rainshadow blank. If you are interested in a custom rod, I would recommend you contact Chris. Note: We are also selling pre-built Rat Boy rods, too. Contact me for information at the link above.

Several updates made to migrate the site from 2 servers to the 1 server. I have not been spending time the last few days loading new products because of this server issue. Too much too do with little time! We did recently add the new Best Chance Too Dvd to our portfolio. It looks to be a high quality, informative product.
